Tomorrow is d-day for me. The time that anyone who has ever taught school dreads....time for testing! We are going to be getting tested tomorrow in Mrs. Hogle's class to see how far our little kiddos have made it academically this year- and as a result time to judge me as a teacher, and see if I am worth keeping around! Time to see if I have gotten anything through those brains in the 10 months that we have shared together - but shared is such a light term. I don't know how to describe the time you have with your class. It is amazing how close you can get to these kids in a short time. All of the experiences we have had together are coming to a head, and not too long from now I will be crying(part joy part sadness) as I send them out the door and on to first grade. It is always a weird feeling to be standing at the end of a another year. Ah, but the testing must happen first. There is no more time to cram last minute info into their heads. It is what it is. But as a teacher I cannot help but worry if I have done enough for them. I hope I have. I have had an awesome class this year. These kids have amazed me with their smarts. They really have come leaps and bounds and I am proud of them.
Allow me to show off some of the work we are doing in class, keep in mind that my kids came in knowing absolutely zero English, so they had a double barrier to overcome:

:
I would say that 85% of my class can do this reading and math accurately, and the other 15% only need minor assistance.
5 year olds do this.
I think that is pretty brag worthy :-)
I guess you could kind of consider this a free ad for "Burke Basic School" - they have and AMAZING program with a back to basics approach that emphasizes reading(phonics), writing and arithmetic. It is a really good program.
Anyway, as good as I think we have done, the stress of testing still looms over my head. What if all my kids freeze up or something and draw blanks? Ahhhh! I will feel better tomorrow when it is over.
Anyway, wish us luck tomorrow!
